[ Come Christmas morning, Sam will find his presents delivered via polar bear dog. Li has a red ratty cloth tied around her neck in Rose's best attempt at a bow. In her mouth, the canine carries a a medium-sized satchel that contains Sam's gifts.
The first thing he'll find two circular pendants carved out of bone. They're meant to be worn as necklaces but could easily be pocketed or tied around a belt loop instead. The picture carved onto the pendant is that of a wolf howling in the center. The background is a line of trees about halfway up from the bottom while the top has dents carved out of them to look like craters of the moon.
There are a couple of ofbooks in there as well along with an IOU for fish; that probably belongs to a friendly feline they both know but Rose hasn't seen. So Sam is getting her gifts bundled in with his.
The tie on Li's neck holds a note ( along with a paperback book cover ), which reads: ]
Merry Christmas, Sam!
I hope you like the books. Zombies and sea monsters seem like they'd be right up your alley. I can't say I've ever read these versions of the stories though so you'll have to let me know how they are.
The pendant is something a little more personal. It's to show that I consider you a packmate; basically, that means you're my family. It's a promise too. A promise that I'll always look out for you and anyone else in our pack from here on out. I know I've failed you in the past but this a vow that it won't happen again.
Hopefully it brings you some good luck if nothing else. Pass one along to Katie for me if you see her.
Love, Rose
P.S. I found myself a book too while looking for ones for you. It's pretty beat up but still readable and looks... interesting. Merry Christmas to me! ♥
[ And the book cover that comes with the note is a little something titled Supernatural. ]
I was actually kind of thinking of converting my house into a barn and, uh. [ Sleeping... outside... But she refrains from actually saying that lest she get mother henned by Sam. ]
It just knows I'm clumsy; my legs are too long, so. It anticipates when I fall over them.
[It really is a wonder, he thinks, that this kind of conversation is commonplace now for him; he's not used to keeping the sass levels running so much, but Katie just does that to him, y'know.]
Well, some of them can handle the outside. They're animals with fur and wool, anyway. We don't need to leave them to fend for themselves, but you need your own space; they can't just have it all.
[Maybe he should be more pissed at her lack of personal space. After all, there's a lot of dirt in there. At this point though... doesn't everyone know most of his story? At least the first few years of it. People have conventions about it, for christ's sake.]
She crossed a line. The lightheartedness in her tone fades, replaced instead with something apologetic and sincere. ]
I've been spoiled on some of it. [ The Sam that lost his soul, the one straight out of Hell. She's even met one of the antagonists himself. ]
I'd like to know the actual story of Sam Winchester eventually though. [ She's not as afraid to ask anymore but also isn't about to pry. It's his decision what he wants to share and, yeah, it was kind of messed up of her to read the book without his knowing. What's done is done but... she does feel a little guilty now and it rings through. ] And I'd definitely rather hear it from the man himself than some horribly written book.
So, don't worry. I'll get rid of it. Toss it in the ocean or something. It was kind of a crappy Christmas present to myself anyway.
