[He hesitates, a bit tense, because this is kind of intimate and he really doesn't want things to get read wrong, but she's warm and soft and even Sam isn't completely resistant against that kind of weary, floating feeling. He finally just sags where he lays and lets his arm rest over her, trying not to feel flustered.]

I, uh — I know destiny's a load of crap.

[Well. Sort of. It's complicated. Seems to work out for Rei, though.]

You sure you're not putting a little too much faith in me?

[ Rose huffs, nuzzling her head against his shoulder. He doesn't have to worry about her reading things wrong - She knows this doesn't mean anything no matter how much she wishes it might. Truthfully, she just... needs someone to hold right now; she needs her pack and Sam was part of that. The woman was bone tired and scared out of her mind with what was going on so it made all the difference to know she wasn't going it alone. Even if she still believes she should be facing this on her own. ]

Of course not. That's what friends do, right? They believe in each other. Always look for the best in one another. [ A pause. ] I mean, I'm a disappointment like ninety percent of the time so I realize it's gotta be way harder for you guys to find my good qualities or believe in me than I do you but. Y'know.

[He rolls his eyes.]

The self-deprecation gets old fast. Think I'd know.

[He's an expert.]

But good to know we're both on the same team.

Too bad. You're just gonna have to deal with it.

[ He's no more an expert than she is. ]

Was there ever any doubt?

[Sam huffs a breath, relaxes a bit, and then says in a whisper:]

Go to sleep, Rosie.

[ He doesn't have to tell her twice. She'd already been starting to drift off so sleep comes quickly. She's still practically a tangled mess of limbs around him but he doesn't seem to mind too much anymore.

After a couple of minutes, she's out like a light and it'll be the best nights sleep she's had in what feels like forever. Shin kicks and being called someone else's name during cuddles aside anyway. ]
